Why the Nintendo 3DS Failed

As a video game and movie fan, I was heartsick to hear the Nintendo was coming out with a 3D game console. It sounded like a bad idea that was just going to fail. Since 3D is somewhat new and is now being pushed on us more than ever before (If ever been to your local theater recently? Then you know what I mean), it sounded like an overload. Even more so since we do not know the long term effects of 3D images on eyes. Granted, at the local theaters we are forced to wear glasses that might protect our eyes, but the 3DS does not provide those. It was a disaster in the making, despite those around me were calling me a party p00per.

Then the impressive marketing campaign came out and with their commercial showing the game coming to life, kids and adults flocked to it. However, news starting circling around that the game started to make them feel sick. Nintendo was quick to come out and say that you can always turn off the 3D feature. But that wasn’t enough to help them since doctors came out saying the device was not good for those 7 years and under. Nintendo appeared to ignore that and go on their own merry way. Then the big day came and it the device was released with much hype.

Must Have Electronics For Back To School

If you are going back to school, chances are that you will need some electronics to help. Granted, this post is more aimed for high school students and college students-but we can still agree that no matter what age or grade you will need to use some sort of tech. So lets take a look at some options that are good picks for the busy student of today.

As I talked about some time ago, some schools are allowing e-textbooks. No need to bring those heavy, back breaking books around anymore! Popular options of course would be the Kindle and Nook. But you may find a few other options out there as well. Some sites like eBay and Amazon sell lesser brand options, but you should make sure that they will support the file format first.

Why Buy Textbooks? Amazon To Start Renting Out Textbooks

Amazon is always working on ways to grow their market share for their Kindle brand.

Cloud Computing-Why You Should Second Guess It

We all have been hearing about cloud computing and how it saves the world. But most people don’t realize what can all go wrong with these ever popular services, so here we will be taking a look at why I don’t recommend them. First we will start off with their claims and then give you the not so pretty side kept hidden from you.

Apple Hackers Find Loophole To Attack Mac OS

Remember back in the day when Apple users said that Apple was safer than Windows? If you do, then you most likely rolled your eyes knowing that it was only a matter of time. Now that Apple’s popularity has grown, hackers are seeking ways to hack into the machines. Now they have found a way via Skype. Find out more and how to fix it after the jump.

App Stays On Hold For You

Sadly we all know that when you call a customer service line, chances are you will be put on hold. Some have even reported to be hold for hours at a time. However, the iPhone has a new app that will stay on hold for you and let you know when you are connected to a real person.

It is called FastCustomer and supposedly it forces the call center to pick up-then puts them back on hold. Here is the official description.

The average person wastes 60 hours on hold every year. We wanted a better way to get to a real person when you want customer service.

Simply click a button and we’ll connect you without waiting on hold.

Please note: This app requires your phone number to function.

FastCustomer is similar to LucyPhone and Fonolo, but we navigate the phone trees for you

It costs only $0.99 cents and has good reviews. I have no idea how it works, but hopefully one day I will get to try it. I sort of hope they make a version of it for Android. I think it could work out well, but I suspect that call centers will get smart about it quickly.

Commodore 64 Makes A Come Back

Commordore 64

Good news for Commodore 64 fans out there! The Commodore 64 is back, and this time it is more advance. The new Commodore(be aware that it isn’t exactly the same as the old version) has the following specs.

  • 2 GB DDR Memory(can be expanded to 4 GB)
  • Intel dual-core 525 Atom Processor
  • Nvidia Ion 2 GPU
  • DVD-rom(Blu-Ray optional)
  • Muliti-Card Reader
  • 5 USB ports
  • TV/Monitor support
  • Commodore OS(supports Ubuntu & Windows)
  • Will support old school Commodore games

Be aware that as of now it comes with Ubuntu disc, but they will mail you the Commodore OS and game emulator once it is ready. You can also turn it into a regular computer by installing Windows. You can buy a build it yourself version($250.00) or a pre-made one(between $595.00 to $895). Also as a quick reminder, it does not come with a monitor, so you have to buy a new one. It will be released this Tuesday(April 12th) online, no plans for retail stores as of yet.You can buy it via Commodore USA.

What are your thoughts on the new Commodore?  Are you happy that they are bringing it back or do you think this ship has sailed a long time ago? I am excited for it, I think it could help usher in previous standards used a long time ago.

Motorola Xoom Fails To Impress

Motorola Xoom

As a fan of Motorola, I am sad to say that their attempt at tablets seems to have failed. The popular bashing topic the Motorola Xoom has only sold 100,000 tablets since it has come out, which is low when you compare it to the big iPad. Granted, the Xoom does come at a high cost for those who want it. But so does the iPad. So what is the real reason why it has failed?

I think the main issue is that nobody wants to buy what they deem the iPad knock off. As I have said before, Apple has a cult like following-and while I am a fan of some Apple products I do know most fans will not be seen without the latest Apple gadget. So that sadly displaces the Xoom, which is a prominent example of another tablet that is not Apple. It has nothing to do with the tablet itself or Motorola, at least thats how I take this.

I personally would love a Motorola Xoom, but then again I suppose it would be nice to compare how it stands against other tablets. I will still stand by Motorola no matter what, and I will say that I think people need to find room for other tablets outside of Apple.

What are your thoughts about this? Have you played with the Xoom? Do you think people are obsessed with the Apple brand? Let me know in the comments.

Lego Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest Trailer

The UK is gearing up for the release of Lego Pirates of the Caribbean game next month(May 13th), and they released a new trailer! It is based on the previous Pirates movie Dead Man’s Chest.

What do you think about the trailer? Are you hoping to get a copy of the game? I am excited for its release, in fact I sort of want to get my hands on  a copy of it for review. Maybe I will be able to do that. It will be released in the US on May 10th, and May 13th in the UK.
